When I told my mother that I was afraid of the dark, she told me, "No, honey, you're not. You're afraid of what's in it" She didn't realize how right she was about that.. Starting when I was five I had nightmares about an ever present darkness. Early on the dreams were "tame" compared to what they became later. Usually, I was just floating in the darkness; it was kinda like being surrounded by water, except when I looked up there was no light. I could breath, but I didn't need to.
